What happened to the Makeup Addiction subreddit? Here's the debate that explains why good looks fans can't post.

As expected, Katy was annoyed by way of the moderators' determination to ban a devoted member — and complained about her situation in some other subreddit, r/muacirclejerk. "I honestly just posted my frustrations in r/muacirclejerk to vent my frustrations, and I was not expecting anything to happen. It was not my intention to incite a riot,” Katy told Business Insider Australia. "All of this may have been have shyed away from if the mods would have simply unbanned me at the first day. This snowballed into a thread on r/MakeupAddiction, where subscribers bashed the moderators for their decision to ban Katy for reporting anne-of-avonlea. 

Ultimately, the moderators finally unbanned Katy — before banning themselves.

One moderator, ComingUpMilhouse, resigned amid the controversy, writing, "I’m right here to announce that I’m stepping down as a reddit moderator. I went to remedy today and my therapist is still trying to persuade me that I can be in restoration for nervousness and that I will reside a life without it. I realized that my concern of failure and worry of disappointing you all has kept me moderating and from taking this step."

One hour later, the rest of the moderators banned themselves from the platform. Without any active moderators, this in effect bars anyone from making comments or posting.

"A lot has happened this week and the mods are going to ban themselves for a time due to some dangerous handling in the sub on our part," one moderator, fairydustandunicorns, defined. "Unfortunately, that means we can not allow posts or feedback."

They also shared an update with subscribers, revealing that they are working behind the scenes to get up and running as soon as possible. "We fully perceive we need extra mods since we lately don’t have enough who're active. We’ve been actively recruiting and can be introducing our new mods quickly in a separate AMA thread where you can get to know them," person ThumbtacksHurt wrote. "We also are addressing some topics which were sorely wanted. More mods.
