Why did Cissy Saint kill Teddy McDonald?

Cissy decides to cross with Franklin to make the change and retrieve the money. As Teddy will get on the phone with the bank to start up the transfer, Cissy interjects and asks him which prison Alton is being held in.

Teddy taunts at Cissy and says that he lied and admits to killing Alton in chilly blood. Cissy is clearly surprised through his answer and proceeds to shoot him to dying right prior to he makes the money switch.
Instead of fleeing the scene with Franklin, she tells her son good-bye, drops the gun, and waits for the government to take her into custody.
