But what exactly happened to (*40*) Walker?
The story of what came about to (*40*) is a sad one. Carla's lifestyles was reduce short; she was only 17 years previous when she was attacked and kidnapped after a college dance. By telling her story, Dateline is proving that victims of fatal crimes can still survive in our memories. Although a few of these true crime tales can also be difficult to inform and to learn about, it’s necessary that victims like Carla Walker aren’t forgotten.
What happened to (*40*) Walker? She was abducted after her school dance.
The date was Feb. 16, 1974. The instance was the Western Hills High School Valentine’s Day Dance in Fort Worth, Texas. (*40*) Walker attended the dance along with her then-high school sweetheart, Rodney McCoy, and after the dance, they parked in the Ridglea Bowl parking space so Walker may just use the restroom.
But when McCoy and Walker began to kiss in McCoy’s 1969 LTV, the passenger door was suddenly yanked open via a mysterious guy. The man hit McCoy over the top with a .22 Ruger pistol and pulled Walker out of the automobile. The culprit tried taking pictures McCoy with little good fortune, but McCoy was bleeding out anyway.
During the 2021 trial, McCoy testified, “(*40*) grew to become her face to me and — I will visualize it — and stated, ‘Rodney go get dad. Go get my dad.’ Those have been the remaining words I heard from (*40*).” Walker’s body was discovered 3 days later in a culvert close to Benbrook Lake. It was clear that she had been raped, crushed, after which strangled to loss of life.
It took till 2021 for Walker’s family and the public to learn what truly took place to her.
Walker’s brother, Jim, also speaks out all over the Dateline special and divulges that for the past 40 years, he’s was hoping the perpetrator would simply display up and confess. However, it took a botched police investigation, a podcast, and a dear DNA check to finally learn that Walker’s assailant was Glen McCurley.
McCurley was arrested in 2020 thanks to DNA proof that basically showed that he was the person who did this to Walker. He in the end confessed to her murder. He first of all stated that he “simply got over excited” ahead of revealing extra main points of what precisely happened on that fateful evening of the varsity dance.
He explained that he was ingesting whiskey and beers while driving around the city. While McCurley first claimed that he stored Walker from McCoy and had consensual sex with her, he later confessed the truth.
“I took benefit of her, I guess,” McCurley shared. “I choked her to death, I assume. I didn’t beat her up and all that roughly crap.” He justified his actions by way of announcing he was scared that she would tell on him.
